Practical training for public health professionals navigating policy, government, technology, and change.
Forward Health Infrastructure offers live, interactive workshops designed to help public health professionals communicate more effectively, navigate government decision-making, and translate complex ideas into clear, actionable strategies.
Led by former CDC policy leader Laura Gravesen, workshops draw on nearly two decades of experience at the intersection of public health, policy, funding, and government decision-making.
Designed for state and local public health professionals, policy teams, program leaders, communications staff, data and informatics teams, and emerging public health leaders.
How to Make Your Case in Five Minutes
Great public health work does not always speak for itself. Policymakers and senior leaders need information that is concise, relevant, and connected to the decisions in front of them.
This practical workshop teaches participants how to turn complex public health information into a clear, compelling briefing.
Participants will learn how to:
Need an invoice for professional development approval or reimbursement? Individual and team invoicing is available.
Messaging Public Health Priorities
Turn complex programs, evidence, and public health priorities into messages that resonate with policymakers, executives, partners, and the public.
Participants learn a practical framework for identifying the audience, defining the message, choosing the strongest supporting evidence, and communicating a clear case for action.
Join Interest ListUnderstand how government decision-makers receive information—and how public health professionals can engage more effectively.
This workshop explores legislative and policymaking environments, effective briefings, relationship building, funding and budget conversations, and strategies for communicating public health priorities in a nonpartisan government environment.
Join Interest ListWriting Faster Without Losing Judgment
AI can dramatically accelerate policy writing—but strong public health policy still requires expertise, judgment, and accountability.
This hands-on workshop shows participants how to use AI to develop and improve policy briefs, executive summaries, talking points, briefing materials, legislative analysis, and other common public health products. Participants learn practical prompting techniques alongside approaches for reviewing accuracy, protecting sensitive information, identifying limitations, and determining where human judgment remains essential.
Join Interest ListPublic health data modernization is often technically complex. Securing leadership, policymaker, and partner support requires translating that complexity into a compelling case for investment.
This workshop helps public health data and informatics leaders connect technology investments to public health outcomes, operational needs, workforce impact, and government priorities.
Join Interest ListThese are not generic communications or leadership courses.
Each workshop is grounded in the realities of public-sector public health—including competing priorities, limited resources, complex stakeholder environments, government funding, legislative oversight, and the challenge of communicating highly technical work to nontechnical decision-makers.
Workshops emphasize practical tools participants can immediately apply in their own organizations.
Public workshops are offered virtually throughout the year and are designed to be accessible through individual professional development and training budgets. Organizations may also register multiple staff members or request a private workshop customized for their team.
